Outlook sharing application offers added Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA)

Today Lookout Software released OfficeCalendar Version 6, a major upgrade to the affordable software alternative to Microsoft Exchange Server that allows users to easily share their Outlook calendars, and more with colleagues/co-workers. OfficeCalendar Version 6’s biggest highlight is major expansion of their popular Outlook Web Access (OWA), OfficeCalendar Online.

OfficeCalendar is designed to network Outlook, giving users the power to share their Outlook calendar, contact, tasks and email inbox information with their colleagues and coworkers. OfficeCalendar Online, an optional service, gives users the ability to access their Outlook information online from anywhere at any time. OfficeCalendar Version 6 increases the software’s already comprehensive feature set, offering two-way synchronization of information from Outlook to OfficeCalendar Online and vice versa; and full sharing of task information, meaning you can read, write and delete shared Outlook Task folders.

OfficeCalendar Version 6’s ability to relay information from a user’s local copy of Outlook to their OfficeCalendar Online account, and vice versa, gives those who are frequently away from the office full access to their Outlook information. This means all changes made to your Outlook calendars, contacts and tasks are transmitted online, and all changes made to your personal and shared Outlook folders while online are transmitted back to your copy of Outlook. This translates into full Outlook web access, which is invaluable for those who use it the most.

OfficeCalendar is used by more than 10,000 companies and has more than 100,000 Outlook users relying on the addin everyday. OfficeCalendar has received numerous industry awards since its initial release in 2004 and is considered one of the top Outlook business solution addins in use around world according to the Microsoft Outlook and Exchange Server solution center Outlookipedia. See the Outlookipedia guide to sharing Microsoft Outlook without Exchange.

Sharing Outlook Calendar Free/Busy Information With People Outside of your Company

If you work for a company running Exchange, you probably use Outlook's free/busy viewer every day to schedule meetings. This great tool allows you to easily see when your colleagues are free for a meeting. Unfortunately, without great deal of effort, you cannot use this scheduling tool to see free/busy information for people outside your business. However, a new service, FreeBusySharing, solves this problem. Each person using the service will need a supported version of Microsoft® Outlook (i.e., 2002, 2003 or 2007).

How to Share Outlook Calendars without Exchange Server

There are more than 250 million users of Microsoft Outlook around the world that use the application to manage their email, calendars, contacts and tasks. However, only about 20% of all Microsoft Outlook users are connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server mail box. Thus, more than 200 million users around the world use Microsoft Outlook without Microsoft Exchange Server.

A common problem non-Exchange users encounter is the inability to share Outlook calendars and other folders with their co-workers because Outlook, by itself, has no built-in function for sharing calendars and other items without being connected to an Exchange Server. Outlook users that aren't connected to Exchange typically work in smaller organizations, and thus don't have the budget and/or resources to maintain an Exchange Server, which can be quite expensive to purchase, install and maintain.

While Microsoft does not offer a solution for sharing Outlook calendar and other folders beyond Exchange Server, there are several 3rd party software vendors that do offer highly affordable and very effective solutions that allow you to share Microsoft Outlook calendar and much more. A great example of these solutions is the excellent Outlook addin for sharing Microsoft Outlook called OfficeCalendar by Lookout Software. OfficeCalendar can be installed on practically any Windows-based network, costs a fraction of implementing Exchange Server, and not only allows you share Outlook calendars, but also contacts, tasks, and email.

There are quite a few other solutions out there for sharing Outlook calendars without Exchange Server, which vary in price and feature sets. The most comprehensive resource on the web that lists all of these solutions can be found at Share Outlook calendar and contacts by Outlookipedia.
